Cubs

The Cub section caters for young people aged 8–10 years. There are over 3000 Cubs in Berkshire enjoying their Scouting across approximately 150 Cub Packs. There are a variety of activity and challenge badges which they work towards to gain their Chief Scout’s Silver Award.

The Cub section

For Cubs, excitement and adventure are key. Their programme offers a huge variety of activities surrounding areas of fitness, global and beliefs; whilst allowing them to be creative and get involved in their local communities. Cubs are introduced to exciting outdoor skills and take part in adventurous activities, as well as camps and residential experiences.

A Cub Pack is usually organised into small groups called Sixes, each headed up by an older Cub called a Sixer, and often with a Seconder as well. Sixes can be used in a number of ways to facilitate the organisation of the Cub Pack. They may provide a ‘home’ area for Cubs to gather at points at the start, during or at the end of the Pack meeting.

County Cub Adventure Challenge Award Day

September saw over 300 Cubs and their leaders attend a day of adventure at Paccar Scout Campsite. The Cubs were given the opportunity to try a number of new activities including archery, climbing, abseiling, adventure courses and much more. By attending and taking part in the day, the Cubs were able to achieve their Adventure Challenge Award.
