Training Advisers (TAs) have an essential job in providing support to those undertaking training for their Wood Badge. TAs with managerial experience, either with a Scouting role or externally, are able to become TAs for Managers and Supporters to support and assess learners in their training for these key appointments.
Who can become a TA?
While many TAs have previous experience in Scouting which they use to share with learners they support, this isn’t required. TAs need to complete the following modules:

What does a TA do?
The Scout Association have published a Role description for a Training Adviser, and a Role description for a Training Adviser for Managers & Supporters.
A TA will begin supporting a learner towards the end of their Induction process, initially by working with them to build a Personal Learning Plan. This Personal Learning Plan is stored on the learner’s profile on Compass. TAs and learners can agree to keep an additional record of the Personal Learning Plan for convenience, yet the record on Compass will be the primary record.

TAs are supported primarily by their Local Training Manager and Local Training Administrator. Often a District will arrange a sharing and support session for TAs a few times a year, which is a good opportunity to meet with fellow TAs to discuss updates and developments, as well as sharing good practise.
